‘Transitopia’ to take off at AGBU Innovation Studios this spring

TORONTOHYE—AGBU Innovation Studios will run its Spring 2026 session, 'Transitopia,' from March 7 through May 16, 2026, bringing students together to imagine and build futuristic transportation concepts. Sessions will be held Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. over 10 weeks, with one weekend off during Easter weekend, at the AGBU offices at 1 Concorde Gate, Suite 200D, in North York.

The studio centres on speculative design and the questions behind it, including what vehicles might look like in the far future and what kinds of systems would be needed to support them. Participants will also be encouraged to think beyond efficiency and consider what could change if future transportation systems were also delightful, fun, or helpful to society in new and surprising ways.

Alongside imaginative vehicle-building, students will be introduced to renewable energy concepts, including solar, hydro, and wind power, while thinking through the infrastructure that could transform how vehicles move, how they are designed, and who they transport. The goal, AGBU said in a statement, is for students to design new modes of transportation grounded in their own ideas about how future mobility could work.

Hands-on prototyping is a core part of the experience, with students expected to develop movable models while experimenting with motors, batteries, engines, radio signals, different chassis types, and wheels. The program is set to conclude with a final exhibition where students will demonstrate their prototypes and present their visions for the future of transportation to an audience.
