ARF Junior Organization of Canada launches Armenian-themed puzzle fundraiser
TORONTOHYE—The ARF Junior Organization of Canada (ARF JOC) has launched a new fundraiser that blends culture, creativity, and community support: two original Armenian-themed jigsaw puzzles, available for purchase both online and at local events.
Photo shown is a mockup created by Torontohye for reference only. Actual puzzle box design may differ.
Designed to be challenging, collectible, and meaningful, the puzzles offer supporters a hands-on way to celebrate their Armenian heritage while helping to fund youth programming.
“We were inspired by the idea of connecting our culture with something fun and engaging for all ages,” said Araz Karshafian, chair of the ARF JOC Krisdapor chapter of Toronto. “During the pandemic and beyond, puzzles became popular again. People loved spending time away from screens and doing something hands-on. We thought, why not create puzzles that also celebrate Armenian identity and art? It was a creative way to raise funds and share meaningful visuals that reflect who we are.”
The 500-piece puzzle features a bold reinterpretation of the iconic “We are our mountains” monument, designed by Karagusi, a Toronto-based design studio founded in 2017. Known for its clean lines, expressive colours, and cultural depth, Karagusi creates contemporary pieces inspired by Armenian and Artsakhian typography, symbology, and architecture. This puzzle is rated seven out of 10 in difficulty, takes roughly five to 10 hours to complete, and measures 45.7 cm by 61 cm.
The 1000-piece puzzle features a colourful, detailed painting of Republic Square by Yerevan-born artist Aram Movsisyan. A graduate of the Terlemezyan State College of Fine Arts, Movsisyan has gained recognition in both local and international exhibitions for his expressive blend of tradition and modernity. His works celebrate colour, form, and cultural memory, and this particular piece captures the scale and energy of Armenia’s capital city. With a difficulty rating of 10 out of 10, the puzzle is intended for more advanced puzzlers and may take several days or even weeks to complete. The finished size is 51 cm by 71 cm.
“We’ve seen both artists’ work before and really liked it,” said Karshafian. “Karagusi’s design of the ‘We are our mountains’ monument is bold and modern. It’s a strong symbol of Artsakh and Armenian pride. Movsisyan’s painting of Republic Square shows the beauty and energy of Yerevan. These images are meaningful to us, and we hope people feel proud and connected while building them.”
The puzzles are being sold for $30 each, or $60 for a bundle of both. All sales are final. No refunds, exchanges, or credits are available.
Proceeds from the sales support the ARF JOC’s year-round educational programs, leadership seminars, and cultural events. A portion of the funds will also help cover costs for the group’s upcoming trip to Armenia, which Karshafian said is a cornerstone of the organization’s mission: “This trip means a lot to us. It helps us connect with our roots, meet other Armenian youth, and learn more about our culture. By buying a puzzle, you’re helping make this important experience possible.”
Initial sales and in-person pickups took place at the Armenian Community Centre of Toronto from late May to early June. While those dates have passed, more opportunities will be announced soon, including at the upcoming Toronto A.C.C. Summer Fest.
